We kind of crossed a couple items off our SCR Bucket List this last weekend. First, on Friday, we played the Birchmere in Arlington, a club revered name in bluegrass. It was our first time headlining there, so thanks to everybody who helped us sell it out, Katy Daly from WAMU for help in promotion, and Shannon Whitworth for a great set.

"The SCR with Levon Helm"
From there, we made our way to Woodstock, NY and the Midnight Ramble at Levon Helm’s barn/studio. The twelve-piece band included Levon on drums/mandolin and Donald Fagan (of Steely Dan) on keys. After our set we sat back and enjoyed a great show, then joined the band for the final song of the night, The Weight, with Woody singing the first verse. Meeting and playing with such musical heroes is one of the highlights of our bands career, for sure.
Next weekend, it’s off to LA for the Grammys, after a couple shows with Steve Martin. It’s quite a bit of company to join in being nominated for the Bluegrass Album of the Year award; Del McCoury Band, Dr. Ralph Stanley, Alison Kraus and Union Station, Jim Lauderdale, and Chris Thile and Michael Daves. We’ve had a great run of club shows lately and hope those of you in the area can join us in Atlanta GA at the Variety Playhouse on Feb. 24. |
